Geoff:

Just a short note to say how much I enjoyed your narrative and pictures of your recent trip. You were very diligent in keeping the blog up to date and your writings are greatly appreciated.

I have seen your name mentioned more than once in other websites as a trusted reference for travel in other parts of North America and the Caribbean.

Congratulations on your trip and best wishes for a good layup. Look forward to your next adventure in 2009.

Geoff,

Just found you as you passed through my part of the world. Ship Harbour is just around the corner (about 2hrs) from your anchorage in Tangier. If you had been on the other side of the land mass where you anchored you would have found Shelter Cove a superb anchorage in Pope's Hbr.
I am a member of the RNSYS and I can tell you that we have very little swell or wave action in that location as we are really well away from the open ocean. Despite what you may have heard RNSYS did not experience damage to the mooring field or wharf/ marina structure in hurricane JUAN although winds reached a top speed of 130mph. My own boat a 36 ft. sloop was at my marina (with extra lines) and did not move. Two or three boats that were not properly secured did brake loose from moorings. Your choice of AYC was a good one at anytime. I started sailing there 55 years ago.
Hopefully the sun will shine for the rest of your trip.

Hello guys, Love looking at your wesite again. Atleast now I can envy you both while I go back to the work force. Saw your video on Salty sailors website. How cool is it to go thru Locks. I bet a little nerve racking. I will look forward to your updates. Have a great trip & Fairwinds. Lisa

Glad Sue is safely back on board. You'll enjoy the canal.

Sorry West Point wasn't friendlier. 9/11 changed the openness. Lovely place to visit - and particularly poignant with the war.

I echo the comments on St. Pierre and Miquelon. I was there in 1978 and found it beautiful. Great place to grab a patio table in the harbor and enjoy midday table wine watching the fishing fleet. Sweater weather even n July.

The French islands of St Pierre et Miquelon off the south coast of Nfld are worth a stop. Very welcoming to visiting yachts. About 35 boats from the RHSP race will be in port at the end of July tho and room will be short at that time but the parties are great!

Great web site, the pictures and travels look fantastic. I can't seem to find any information or pictures of your boat. There are a few from a distance away, but I am looking for more close up ones as well as what kind of boat you have

Thanks

Hi Geoff:

Enjoying your narratives very much, especially your cruise through the Bahamas. Many of the routes and destinations were familiar, as I cruised the bahamas many times in the 70's and 80's. I'm glad I saw the reefs in those years before they were destroyed!

Noted your intended cruise for this year, and would like to recommend that you spend a few days (weeks) in Lake Ontario when you leave Oswego and before you get to the 1000 Islands. There are many interseting ports on Lake Ontario. I would suggest heading west on the south shore visiting the many small ports and bigger ones such as Rochester and Youngstown. Cross over to Toronto (30 miles), stay a while, and then head east along the north shore, then through the Bay of Quinte (which is a most beautiful area), on to Kingston and then to the 1000 islands.

Show your yacht club membership card at 90% of the clubs along the route, and get to stay for a night or 2 for free. Marinas are about $1 - $1.50 per ft. including power.

It would be a shame to miss this wonderful lake. If you want more information, please let me know.

Happy cruising.

Hello,

We are considering heading to Conception Island - We are in the Exumas on a sailboat. We are trying to find out if fishing/lobestering is allowed there or not. Your comment that fishing boats line the edge of the reef- does that mean they are just outside the park or fishing in the park? Thanks! Please respond to rebecca.childress@yahoo.com
